Hypnotherapy Uses > Painless Childbirth

Probably the most successful role in which hypnotherapy can be used in everyday life because it is natural and can be a very pleasant event. Remember, children born to a relaxed mother are much stronger after birth.

Hypnosis teaches mothers to anticipate giving birth to a healthy baby at the end of her labour and to have all the instinctive care necessary to look after it. You are also taught how the body works, how certain muscles relax while others contract, leaving a free passage for the baby. The uterus is under the control of the subconscious mind so all we do is give it reinforcement when the time comes for delivery. The pregnant woman gains best results if she starts receiving hypnotherapy sessions from the time she becomes pregnant as this completely prepares her, both mentally and physically, for the birth itself. It can also help to control morning sickness and after having practiced relaxing for the best part of nine months, she can relax the relevant muscles when the baby is being born.

I would just like to pint out that while there is a much higher percentage of women who actually enjoy the delivery of their babies with hypnosis, there is a smaller number who feel some discomfort and a tiny number who find no relief. However, even if you are one of the latter or if there is some abnormality and an epidural is required, you can still use hypnosis to relax during the whole procedure.

Hypnotherapy can also help in the weeks and months after childbirth for post-natal depression and easing the flow of breast milk if the mother is experiencing any problems with breastfeeding.
