For most people, drinking starts as a little luxury at the end of the day. Totally harmless at first it somehow creeps up until you realise it has turned into something else.
Then, excessive and regular beer or wine drinking, like any habit, produces changes in the brain meaning you need more and more to have the same effect. What started out as a glass a night with regular nights off can turn into ¾ of a bottle or even a whole bottle every night.
